Aragorn had a very flimsy claim to the throne of Gondor, and he would not have been easily accepted as King. The question that has always troubled me is the ease with which Aragorn was able to take the throne of Gondor. During the events of the War of the Ring, Aragorn is a stranger whose claims to the throne are based on the fact that he is the 37th descendant of the king of a lost kingdom that fell over 1000 years ago, who was the brother of the second king of Gondor. At that time, Gondor had been ruled for over 900 years by a line of stewards who were effectively kings in all but **** le. It is a military power, the largest and most powerful kingdom of men in Middle-earth with several provinces, which means it almost certainly has a well-established governance structure, and the presence of Prince Imrahil indicates the existence of **** ility aiding in governance. Gondor has survived a civil war, plague, and constant warfare on its borders, and it evidently is a highly militarized society with a large standing army.

Gandalf is a respected figure in Gondor, but during the events of the War of the Ring, he was in conflict with the ruling steward Denethor (who undoubtedly has many allies in the ruling class and army of Gondor) and was the driving force behind the campaign that Aragorn was part of, which led to the death of Boromir, a charismatic and popular commander of Gondor and the main heir of the ruling steward (and only his), and it is hard to believe that despite all this, Aragorn is immediately accepted as king without conflicts or rivalries.
Faramir and Imrahil have much more legitimate claims to the throne, and both are well-known in Gondor, and there are likely countless other unnamed **** les or power centers in Gondor that would probably have both the motivation to claim power and the means to **** ert their claims.
